Thomas Dubois, Ph.D.
Staff Psychologist
Originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming, Tom came to the UNH Counseling Center after receiving his B.A. from Grinnell College, M.S. from Iowa State University and Ph.D. from The State University of New York at Buffalo. He was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at SUNY--Stony Brook, where he studied behavior therapy and behavior modification.
Tom is a past director of the UNH Counseling Center. Currently, he is a senior staff psychologist, working within a psychodynamic, humanistic/gestalt and cognitive-behavioral framework, often using altered states/meditation in helping clients to establish internal boundaries and increase self awareness. He is interested in the connections that exist between psychology, spirituality and our understanding of consciousness. He has been involved in community mental health work consulting with teachers, school and health administrators, and he maintains a private practice in psychotherapy. He has worked extensively with couples and groups, and is currently conducting skill groups on anxiety management and assertive communication. Tom is also concerned with social justice and issues of oppression, and he has written on the subject of men and gender issues in psychotherapy.
On the personal side, Tom is married with two grown children. He lives in the country with his wife. He has particular interests in woodworking, walking/hiking, biking, sailing, poetry and horticulture.
