Edith Posselt, Ed.D.
Staff Psychologist / Coordinator- Testing Program
A native of New Hampshire, Edie earned both her B.A. in English Literature and a C.A.G.S. in Counseling Education from UNH. Her early professional experience was in school guidance and school psychology. Her work in learning and emotional disability evaluation helped prepare her for her current role as coordinator of the testing program at the Counseling Center that focuses primarily on learning disability testing. Following her doctoral studies in Counseling Psychology at B.U. where she earned an Ed.D., she worked in community mental health specializing in women's issues, with an emphasis on eating disorders. Her work also focused on anxiety disorders with behavioral medicine and cognitive approaches the basis of the training and experience she received at that time. More recently she has been involved with working with athletes with injury, performance, or health related concerns and maintains a working relationship with staff in Athletics.
Currently, Edie works with individuals and groups with a variety of concerns, finding students of all ages to be a rewarding group with whom to work. Along with a strong foundation of feminist and psychodynamic approaches, not to mention a generous amount of humanism, Edie's theoretical orientation integrates previous training in the cognitive approach. Respect for resiliency and an individual's ability to grow and change also guides her work.
She loves the outdoors and enjoys it by running, hiking, biking, bird watching, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, an attempt at maintaining health of body and spirit. She and her husband enjoy traveling - hiking, sight seeing, and taking great pleasure in the food, history, art, and culture of the destination. However, Edie has no problem relaxing at home with a good book, and a cat on her lap.
